Notogomphus kilimandjaricus (Sjöstedt, 1909)
Rusty-tipped Longleg
Synonyms:
- scientific: N. kilimanjaricus; N. meruensis (Sjöstedt, 1909)
Type locality: Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
Diagnosis
Male is similar to N. lecythus by (a) face all pale, at most with thin dark line on frons or at base postclypeus; (b) antehumeral stripe narrow, indistinct or absent; interpleural suture unmarked; (c) postdorsal stripes merged with pale area of middorsal carina, at most thinly separated; (d) costa pale; (e) ventral teeth of cerci directed outwards, visible in dorsal view. However, differs by (1) being restricted to S Kenya and N Tanzania; (2) postdorsal stripes at least partly separated from pale area of middorsal carina; (3) middorsal carina largely lined with black rather than only with black spot on its tooth; (4) S9-10 uniformly orange-brown, rather than black with yellow markings; (5) cerci rather straight (dorsal view) rather than twisted; (6) branches of epiproct elongate rather than short.
